Things we've seen while fishing

On Monday while we were out fishing we saw all kinds of interesting sights. On this channel off the Minnesota River we saw this beaver and it's little baby gathering branches for their house - they were at it all night working (dare I say as busy as beavers).

While we were fishing on the Mississippi this Eagle came and sat in a tree right above our heads.
We thought it was nice being out and seeing such interesting sights even though we only caught one fish... These are the kind of things you have to tell yourself when your not catching anything.

Life on the Mississippi

more fishing and violin

Tonight Maya has a violin and then maybe we'll do some more fishing. It's becoming very tiring trying to keep up with her.

iPhone week

It’s iPhone week!!! Friday afternoon will be the debut of the much ballyhooed device, and though we are not taking part in the frenzy we are looking forwarded to watching it as nothing makes for a spectacle quite like a spectacle. We are expecting long lines outside Apple stores with podcasters podcasting about other podcasters podcasting about what is without a doubt one of the great moments in our collective history. :-)

For those of you who find said phone to be worthy of your consideration we recommend Scott Bourne’s Apple Phone Show blog and podcast. Not only is Scott an insightful levelheaded Mac guy, he is also having a contest where-by if we link to his show we can enter into a contest to win an iPhone… Okay, maybe we are succumbing to the frenzy!

More fishing and swimming

Yesterday was pretty much more of the same for Maya - more fishing and more swimming. As far as the fishing goes though we are concerned that the Mississippi may be out of fish.

Shopping, Swimming & Fishing

Spent the morning in Woodbury doing shopping: first it was Gander Mountain for fishing supplies then Wal Mart for household miscellaneouses and finally Sam's Club for fruits and vegetables. When we got home Maya went swimming at the neighbors and then the two of us went fishing until dark. Though we only caught one measly little fish it was Maya's fist outing using a spinning real and fishing with artificial lures and she did very well.

First Goal of the Year

Maya got her first goal of the year in soccer last night as they gave team China a good beating. The intensity of Maya's game has really picked up as she was involved in several collisions last night. I think if she keeps up playing with such reckless abandon we may have to get her a mouth guard.

Music at the Park

Tonight we took in a concert at Minnehaha Park. Maya's violin teacher is part of the Minnesota Sinfonia and we wanted to see her perform. The concert was very good and we had a nice little walk in the park afterwards.

The accolades

Last day of school

This morning I dropped Maya off a second grader and when I pick her up this afternoon she'll be a third grader. Where does the time go?

Fishing

Today Maya did some fishing, some swimming and generally had a good day despite the heat.

Recital

Saturday was the recital and Maya did a very nice job. She desperately wanted to get it over with so she could go fishing.

The aspiring angler

The other night we began outfitting Maya for a summer of fishing: fishing pole, tackle box (or taco box as Zaheeda calls it) lures, hooks, sinkers, bobbers - she is now fully outfitted and prepared to be a harvester of the sea. Now all we need is for school to end and some decent weather.

Rehearsal

Maya had rehearsal with the pianist tonight in preparation for her performance on Saturday - once this is done it's two more days of school and she's free as a bird.

Concert at Concordia

Yesterday Maya had a concert at Concordia College and performed "Minuet 2" with her group class. Overall the concert was very entertaining, there were performances by Saint Joseph students with all different instruments. Outside of Maya's performance Zaheeda's favorite was the saxophone - Maya and I both liked the bassoons.

Soccer

Last night Maya's soccer team took a beating, were it not for the Famous Dave's dinner after the game Maya would have been devastated.
