WALL-E

This afternoon Maya and I went to see the new Pixar film WALL-E and give it two enthusiastic thumbs up! I put it right up there with Monsters Inc. and the Incredibles. Maya thought it was really good as was her popcorn and sour Skittles.

Smores

Maya and I made smores in the backyard tonight. We had to get rid of a bunch of sticks that had been accumulating as a result of some early summer storms so we broke out our little backyard fireplace, got rid of the sticks and made a little snack. Annah and Zaheeda didn't want to go outside but we made one and brought it in for them.

Relaxing Sunday

We didn't do much today. Ran to Wal-Mart to pick up some odds and ends and spent the rest of the evening at home. We got Annah a mobile for her crib in hopes that little dangling things spinning around to music will convince her that the crib is not such a bad place after all. Annah hates her crib. Not only does she not like to be put in there but if you sneak her in while she's sleeping she takes great offense once she wakes up. Personally I'm skeptical this little move is going to work but Zaheeda wants to give it a try.

Hot Thursday

Made a deal with Maya that I would take her swimming this afternoon if she agreed to watch Annah for me this evening. All and all I'd say it worked out to be a win-win. Annah put her feet in the pool this afternoon too and she really liked it.

Soccer Game

Annah took in her first soccer game this evening in order to support her sister and all of team England. Unfortunately England lost, but the weather was nice for the first time this year and it was an enjoyable game.

This was also Zaheeda's first game of the year and they both seemed to enjoy it.

When Maya wasn't on the field she was on the sidelines hugging up Annah. Being that Maya was gone all day today I think they missed one another.

Pay date then soccer

This afternoon Maya is having a play date at her friend Claire's. Claire lives over by the soccer field so we will meet her over there at 6pm to watch her game tonight.

New iPod Case

Maya's cool new ipod case - it looks like Mike from Monsters Inc.

Track Practice

Maya had her track and field clinic yesterday at The Saint Paul Academy, she ran like a gazelle. Running around the track was a bit of a shock for her though, she said it doesn't seem like it is that far around the thing but trust her, it is. I kind of thought she looked a little worn out because she usually doesn't drink much water but as soon as she got done running around the track she went right for her water bottle. She had a good time, there were about four of her friends from school there so it was just like school gym class.

Indiana Jones

Maya and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie last night at the MOA while Zaheeda and Annah did some shopping. We give the movie two thumbs up! It had lots of fun fast moving action and I particularly appreciated how they didn't over do it with the modern special effects, it kept the same look and feel of the earlier movies. Maya liked the story and thought it had a lot of clever twists and turns.

Friday

This weekend Maya has a running clinic tomorrow and then we are pretty much free the rest of the weekend. I think we need a little rest.

Dried Bananas

For Mother's Day we got Zaheeda food dryer and Maya and I put it to work this afternoon by drying some bananas. Maya is really into this food drying thing.... You give her some food and she'll dry it!

Filling her days

Maya has been filling her days by doing activities with the daycare kids - you wouldn't believe how hard it is to work with such an undisciplined lot. She has taken it as her personal mission to develop sense of order and regimen within the ranks. I'll keep you posted on how all that works out.

This afternoon we have a violin lesson at 3PM and then run some errands. We are doing what we can to keep her occupied. The neighbors have finally gotten their pool fixed so in the event that summer weather should arrive we can start to go swimming.

Team England is 3-0

Maya's soccer team had another exciting game tonight as they took on Australia. Maya played goalie for the first time and didn't give up a goal! This success was won at a price however as she took a series of kicks to the ribs, hands and legs from the other team by throwing herself in front of the ball to prevent a score. Ah, but the pain of bruises goes away a lot faster than the pain of losing:-)

Maya alone with the computer

I was going through the hard drive of the iMac last night and this is the kind of stuff I came across. Maybe we should consider closer parental supervision.

Weather Forcast

Something about this weather forecast kind of made me smile. We're beginning to feel a little like Bill Murray in Ground Hogs Day.

Soccer practice

Zaheeda wanted to get out of the house tonight after a long week and do some shopping but Maya had soccer practice at 7PM which meant there would be little time to shop before practice and even less time afterwards so we decided to drop Annah and Zaheeda off at The Mall after work so they could do some shopping while Maya and I were at practice. Fortunately the weather cleared up and the sun even peaked out for a while making for a pleasant evening of running around on the soccer field.

School's out

Now that the state's done with Maya we have to figure out something to do with her for the next few months. This weekend she is doing a track and field thing at the community center and then there is weekly soccer practice and games. If anyone has any suggestions on what one can do to occupy a nine-year-old we are open to suggestions.

All kidding aside, Maya did a really good job in school this year and is progressing onto fourth grade.
