End of a rough week

Wednesday this week, while standing in line at school Maya accidentally bumped into this boy Nick, who took exception to this and responded by kicking her in the stomach. So Nick and Maya got sent to the office - Maya to give a kick by kick description of what happened and Nick to plead for leniency. Well Nick had to write a formal apology to Maya - something along the lines of 'I promise not to kick you in the stomach anymore, etc.' Nick learned that he needs to control his temper and Maya learned that life is hard, particularly when you've got someone kicking you in the stomach.

The sickness has passed

The sickness that started in the daycare downstairs claimed Maya as a victim yesterday leaving her puking all morning, but after a day off of school and about 8 straight hours of watching Simpsons DVD's she is good as new. The bug, whatever it was, seems to have moved on leaving only Zaheeda still pukey - but that is for other reasons.

Rainy afternoon

I was late picking up Maya from school this afternoon because my alarm on my computer didn't work for some reason. The daycare kids were all sick and pukey for Zaheeda. After violin lessons this afternoon it rained so heavily that we had to walk through a huge puddle to get to the car. All and all it wasn't a pleasant day.

Tree Frog Festival

Yesterday we had a Daddy Daughter Day at the Tree Frog Music Festival in Fairbault and had a nice day. They had lots of art activities for kids, which Maya liked - she made a bead necklace, bracelet and a tissue paper flower, and they also had the guitar player Chris Duarte from Ausitn, TX performing, whom I liked - so we both had a good time.

Dogs

Last weekend our trip to Wisconsin happened to coincide with the opening day of bear hunting season which meant the roadsides were a flurry of activity with people driving around in pickup trucks chasing after their dogs who in turn were trying to chase bears up trees. (Yes, it appears Rusk County is still sporting a vibrant and thriving hillbilly contingent) Well, after lunch a group of dogs came running to Maya's Grandparents house for a water break and though they didn't seem to chase any bears up trees they did manage to scare Maya and Antwan to the top of the car. Some people just don't adapt well to country living.

Parent orientation tonight

Being that orientation was at 5:15pm tonight Zaheeda was unable to attend because of having daycare kids and all, so that left me to attend by myself. Well, it took about an hour but I left feeling completely orientated, and am now prepared to work in conjunction with the Saint Paul Public School system in making this a productive and enjoyable school year.
