School Orientation

Went to Maya's school orientation tonight to find out who her teacher and classmates will be this year. Oh she's getting excited!!!

Playin' the Blues

We were recording a blues song the other day with guitar, violin, singing (Annah did the singing). I'm mixing it together now and will post it in the next couple days.

Maya on the Fiddle

Annah doesn't have the best voice but she does have soul.

Eye Doctor

Yesterday we got Maya's vision tested and her prescription has changed a bit since her last visit so she'll be getting new glasses. We got her teeth fixed, eyes fixed and now she is already to start school.

Swimming with Mom

Maya threatening to dump Zaheeda (who can't swim) into the water. Seldom does Maya have the upper hand in her relations with her mother and it seems the moment she does, she exercises that power.

Dentist

Maya got some cavities filled this afternoon. When she came out she asked if we could go to Uncle Svens and get a comic but I didn't know what she was saying because it sounded like, "Cahn we guh tu to Uckah Ens." Yep, I bet she regretting all that Pucker Powder she's eaten over the years.

On her raft

She's back

After Maya's two week Wisconsin vacation, the girls are glad to be together again.

Uncle Bob's Garden

Uncle Bob put together a really nice garden this summer going to great lengths in building a fence around it to keep the deer out. Next time it looks like he's going to have to lock the door on that fence to keep Zaheeda from steeling his zucchini.

Auntie Gayle and Haylynn look on in disbelief as Zaheeda continues to plunder.

No Hellboy... No nothin'

Maya called me on Skype tonight in hopes that I would petition my mother (her grandmother/prison warden) to let her stay up until ten and watch the second George Lopez, since earlier she refused to let her watch Hellboy on Fox because it ran counter to what Grandma preferred to watch, that being the opening ceremony of the Olympics. With the early bedtimes, limited television and overall generational strife Maya's situation is growing more and more dire by the day.

New Haircut

Maya got her haircut in Hawkins this morning - only cost $10.

Lopezless

Was chatting with Maya last night and the report from Wisconsin is not all good. For some reason her Grandma wont let her watch George Lopez. She must be aware that Maya watches George Lopez every night, back to back episodes from 9-10PM. What gives?

Sewing

According to her Grandma Maya has been doing a lot of sewing. Sewing is so much fun! Imagine, there are millions of lucky kids in China who get to sew for 14 hours a day and I bet they don't even have to practice the violin.

Vacation... So far

Today Maya had her Grandma went to Ladysmith and had breakfast at Country Kitchen then did some shopping at Wal-Mart, which means they have pretty much exhausted everything there is to do in Ladysmith. I'm thinking Maya got me a birthday present and will be so disappointed if she didn't...

40th Anniversary

Maya & Annah's Grandparents celebrated their 40th Anniversary on Sunday.

Gone, but in touch

Maya is out of town but that doesn't mean she's out of touch. Here Annah is with the laptop in her crib having a Skype chat with her sister - it's like having a virtual babysitter.

Playing in the Lawn

Ground Hog Day

Today Maya was in the backyard and came face to face with a ground hog. We don't know if he was looking for his shadow or what, but Maya most definitely didn't see hers because she out ran her shadow on the way back into the house while yelling, "I just saw a giant beaver like thing in the backyard!" Never a dull moment around here.
