We are helping reduce Zaheeda's risk of breast cancer

As part of our commitment to science and Zaheeda's good health we have turned over all housework to Zaheeda (granted she was doing most of it anyway...). Scientist have found that housework helps reduce the risk of breast cancer.... We are doing whatever we can to ensure her good health.

Snow.... Finally!!!!

Science kit

This afternoon Maya started work on the science kit she got from her grandparents for Christmas.... It is really cool. I wonder why her grandparents never got her dad anything like that when he was a kid?

New Years Eve Eve

Today I got a airbrush paint kit from Target, it was part of a Christmas present. I also went to Famous Dave's and had some fish.

Out of Christmas Presents

After less than a week Maya has used just about all her Christmas presents. The last remaining project for her is to go to work on the electronic kit she got from her grandma. Unfortunately she needs her dad's help with that and he hasn't been in the mood.

It Was a Very Gizzy Christmas

Chrstamas came and went, Maya got lots of good presents and is now focusing on relaxing over her school vacation. We want to thank those of you who came over and for all the nice presents. Have a Happy New Year.

Aunty Gayle added a porch onto her house. She is getting to the age where she needs a place to sit in her rocking chair, a shotgun on her lap, and scream, "Get the hell off my property!" when the UPS driver approaches the driveway. We love Aunty Gayle.

Second Day

First day of school went really well - Maya was happy to see her friends and get back into the swing of things. She also started her new year of violin lessons with a new teacher at Saint Joseph School of Music.

Maya has her new all weather mocs, backpack, school supplies and she is off to school! Last night she was so excited she couldn't even sleep.

Gizmo Press

The Schmitt family produced their first book yesterday under our publishing company GIZMO PRESS - named after her Grandma's pesky cat. Everyone took part in the book's construction - here dad did the printing, her mom helped with the sewing of the binding and Maya drew the logo. Here are some pictures:

Chipmunks

Maya's been busy catching, naming and then releasing chipmunks. So far she has caught three - Chippy, Chipper, and Chiplynn. Pretty creative namee, huh?

Second day of swimming

On just her second day of swimming lessons this year Maya got to jump off the diving board. Today she is working on swimming under water.

Started swimming again

Maya had her first swimming lesson of the year yesterday, she working on getting in good form for a long summer of going swimming with her grandparents.

Soccer

First soccer game and Team Belgium (Maya's team) won! Maya even scored a goal! Team Argentina didn't know what hit them.

Carnival

Friday night was the annual Cinco-Di-Manno Carnival at Maya's School - here are a couple pictures.

Bob Roll

This is Maya and cycling legend Bob Roll. Two weeks ago she learned how to ride a bike and now she's hanging out with Tour de France riders...



Bob was a little taken aback when Maya told him that she got $1.00 for each of her teeth - he only got a nickel for his.



He was very nice and signed a copy of his book Bobke II for her.

Dentist

Maya went to the dentist today and except for the fact that she is missing several of them, all looks good. The best part was that she got bubblegum flavored dental floss. Ahhh - life is good.

Back to School

Maya had a good teachers conference and is right on schedule for 2nd grade.

Teacher conference

Tomorrow is teacher confrences with Ms. Schwartz and then Maya has the day off on Friday. We are all hoping for a good report.

Family Fun Night

Tomarrow is another family fun night, they are show "Wallace and Grommit."

End of the month

Tomorrow is Maya's uncle's Birthday - we don't know his exact age but we guess that it is quite old. Monday she has a group violin lesson and will be performing her twinkles variations for the class. She intends to do a lot of practicing this week so she is sure to do well.

Maya's new Violin

This is my third violin, the others were rentals but this third one is a keeper.

Completed Rocket

Here is a picture of the completed rocket. If you look closely you can see a picture of the lion Aslan from Narnia near the top of the rocket. Also you will notice Maya is missing another tooth in the front.

Cake Decorating

Today Maya has been decorating a cake. Everyday there is something else that needs decorating.

Rocket painting

Yesterday Maya worked on painting one of the rockets for the Rocket Party in March. We'll put up a completed picture soon. It turned out really nice and even includes a painting of the lion from Narnia.

mid week

Today Maya has a half day of school and will be going over to her friend Annika's house to play. Today will also be the second day of skating in gym class even though her butt is still sore from last time.
