oh.... One more time

Back to school

The alarm clock didn't go off so we were all a little late getting going this morning. This meant Maya got a ride to school instead of having to wait for the bus. She was fine with that.

Last day of shooting clinic

Yesterday was the last day of the shooting clinic at Saint Thomas. Maya has really gotten a lot better after her first year of basketball and is looking forward to improving a lot more over the summer.

yet another basketball game

Another Saturday meant another basketball game for the feared Hillcrest Electric Tigers. This week they took on the Martin Luther King Community Center - Team Sugaa (no I did not mistype that, they are literally called Team Sugaa - not Team Sugar mind you... Team Sugaa)

Well, Team Sugaa brought their high fructose carbohydrate game plan to The Jimmie Lee Recreational Center this morning and caged the Electric Tigers in twenty point blowout. Maya, always the optimist, was quick to point out that twenty points is only ten baskets. Yeah--- not to be overly critical or anything... but this really doesn't seem like the kind of winning self talk expected of a champion. Oh well, we've got a few more games left and we're hoping we can pull out a win here before the end of the season.

Trader Joe's

Maya and I stopped by Trader Joe's this afternoon to pick up some bread. It's a food lovers' paradise you know. It's also a nice place for colorful and fun artwork!

1,000th Post!!!!

RIFF

We were at Barnes and Noble's the other day when I started looking around for Maya. I found her in the kids section reading the latest installment in the Wimpy Kids Series.

Dolled Up

The girls were putting on makeup tonight to look beautiful. Ooh la la!!!

Geography Bee

Maya was a little bummed out because she came up one round short of advancing in her classes geography bee this year. We're still pretty proud of her and she did do a lot better than last year. She shouldn't feel too bad, after all there are a lot of people who don't do well in geography that go on to great success.

New neighbors

We got new neighbors across the street and Maya is happy because the family has a 6th grade kid that goes to her school. Now she has someone with whom she can walk to and from the bus stop. It is kind of nice having some neighbors who aren't already receiving social security payments for a change.

Sunday Night Fight

Tonight we had a series of unfortunate events that led to a shoutfest - babies cried, mother screamed, Corn Nuts were flung... Oh it was a scene. As usual it was determined to be exclusively Maya's fault. Oh it's not easy raising children.

Shooting Clinic again

Maya had shooting practice at Saint Thomas again tonight and really had quite the workout - by the time she was done she was tired, hungry and her ankle hurt. This clinic really has been very helpful for her and she's been showing a lot of improvement.

Another basketball game

Unfortunately the Hillcrest Electric Tigers lost again. If I were one of those snarky newspaper sports editors I would come up with a cute little headline to go with this news. For Example if the Chicago Blackhawks were to beat the Wild in hockey they would write - Blackhawks tame Wild in an Upset."

I could write:

Langford Pulls Plug on Electric Tigers!

or

Electric Tigers need to Jump Start Season!

I of course wont do this because Maya will get upset. I wont say:

Electric Tigers Run Out of Juice in Loss to Langford!

or

Langford Shocks the Electric Tigers in Upset!

Nope.... I wont do it - that would be mean.

Skiing

Friday was another field trip for Maya and her 5th grade classmates - this time it was off to Afton Alps for a day of skiing. Having never been skiing before she really didn't know what to expect, but said she pick it up rather quickly and was zipping down the slopes in no time. Now she wants me to take her back, but I told her their are really two types of families in the world, those that go skiing and those that don't - unfortunately for her she was born into a family that doesn't:-(

Walker Art Center

Thursday Maya's class went on a field trip to the Walker Art Center. Maya loves art, especially when it gets her out of regularly scheduled classes.

At the bus stop

Since we finally had some warmer weather we headed out to meet Maya at the bus stop. She was happy to see us and even pulled Annah home in the sled.

At the Mall

Maya and I went to the Mall yesterday and a quick FYI to everyone. Ed Hardy is having a big sale!!! Now you can look just like Jon Gosselin at a fraction of the price!

Shooting Clinic

Yesterday Maya took part in a shooting clinic at Saint Thomas put on by the university's woman's basketball coach. She spent two hours shooting and shooting and shooting... It was pretty intensive but a lot of fun too.

Basketball game

Saturday Maya's basketball team - The Hillcrest Electric Tigers. (How they got that name you ask? Well, at first they were the Tigers but then one of the girls thought an electric tiger sounded much more fierce than your run-of-the-mill tiger.) Anyway, they lost - albeit not as badly as their previous game.

Maya & Mike

Here Maya is at the Disney store hugging up Mike. Back in the day, Monsters Inc. was the first movie she ever saw in the theater, making it one of her favorite Pixar films of all time.

Interview with Grandpa

For social studies class Maya had to do an interview with an old person and find out what historical event they remembered most in there life. Maya got on Skype with Grandpa and this is what he had to say:
