Brown Grandma's last day

Well the odd couple are breaking up as of tomorrow. This means no fights in the bedroom no truces called in order to watch George Lopez... They had a tumultuous run and tomorrow it's over.

More Birthday

Maya had yet another birthday party over the weekend, this time at Aunty Gayle's. How it is a person can have a birthday that spans three weeks?

Maya & turtle

This picture is from last summer at Lake MaryAnn. I hoped she washed her hand after holding that thing.

Jasper

The cutest dog in the world? Perhaps. The most well behaved dog in the world? Probably not.

Going to Wisconsin

Making a trip to Wisconsin this afternoon for what looks to be a very busy Memorial Day weekend. Planned is a trip to the nursing home to visit Great Grandma Lucht, a stop over at Auntie Gayles house, brunch on Sunday (not quite breakfast not quite lunch:-) with Great Grandma and Grandpa Schmitt and of course lots of playing with Jasper.

First soccer game

Maya had her first soccer game on Monday this week and it was very very very cold. Zaheeda, Annah and Brown Grandma stayed in the car and I sat out in the cold in win to watch the game. This year is an all girls team, they are playing on a full size field, have a designated referee and strict adherence to the rules so the games have a higher level of respectability to them - the days of fun and games and running around like a bunch of lunatics is over - this is serious business now.

Bike ride to the dam

Went for a bike ride yesterday to the Ford Dam. Maya rode her bike really fast and burned off a lot of energy.

New Narnia Movie

Maya and I went to see the new Narnia movie yesterday afternoon while Zaheeda, Annah and Brown Grandma were visiting relatives in Burnsville. Our review of the film is that it doesn't live up to the first one, we give it two thumbs down - not way down, but down. Hopefully the next one in the series will be better.

Maya, Annah & the tulips

Brown Grandma's first time in church

Being that Maya's recital was in a church, we took this picture to send to Great Grandma Habib so she can see her daughter in a Christian church. As taxing as Islam is with the calisthenic type prayer routines it is no more grueling than an hour in a hardwood pew.

Violin Recital

Friday night Maya had her year end (that's school year end) violin recital at the Macalester Lutheran Church - she played very well.

Fishing

Went fishing yesterday for the first time this season. Didn't catch anything but it was nice to get out and it gave Maya chance to brush up on her casting.

Pucker Powerder

Yesterday we had a little Daddy-Daughter Day and went to the mall to see if we could find her a nice birthday present. She wanted to go to the candy store and get some Pucker Powder. Pucker Powder is basically a self made super sour Pixie Stix for the Ritalin generation.

Happy 9th Birthday

Maya's 9 years old today! To celebrate she took Twinkies to school and the kids were pretty excited - I mean how can you not be excited about Twinkies?

Blowin' in the Wind

This sounds just as good as Bob Dylan - which is kind of a backhanded complement.

Minnesota's First Lady

Mary Pawlenty was at the performance today as the first through third graders sang in celebration of Minnesota's 150th birthday.

Here they are presenting her with a card they made up with pictures of themselves doing something fun in Minnesota. Maya included a picture of herself catching a fish.
