Shot put

Here Maya is showing off proper shot put throwing technique that she learned in track practice this week. I question whether she has the necessary physique for being a successful shot put thrower. Seems to me she needs to gain about a hundred fifty pounds, start lifting some weights and maybe become Russian.

Bus stop

For some reason Maya lugs her scooter around with her to school every day so she can roll rather than walk the half block to and from the bus stop.

The end of Lost

Lost is over. I guess there is really no reason to even have a t.v. anymore. What will become of Tuesday nights?

Old Pic Monday

Spring violin concert

Maya had her Spring violin concert Friday. Maya played really well as did all the other Saint Joseph violinists.

Band concert

Horace Mann 5th and 6th graders had their year end band concert tonight. Maya did a good job playing her trumpet and also helped introduce a couple of the pieces.

First track meet

Maya had her first track meet last night and ran her mile. It was her first time running a mile in quite a while and she got a side ache on the first lap. Despite the pain she struggled through and finished with a time a little over 8 minutes - quite a bit slower than her usual time, but okay for the first time out.

Old Pic Monday

The past couple days I've spent quite a bit of time rummaging through old hard drives looking for pictures. While browsing through these old photos I came across a lot of really good pictures of Maya and thought it would be nice to put them up on the blog so everyone can see them instead of having them sit dormant in little bits and bytes on a disk. Rather than dumping them all online at once I thought it would be fun to put one old picture up every Monday - we'll call it Old Pic Monday. What does Maya think of all this....?

Moderation in all things

What happens if you eat an entire Heath Blizzard and then race around like a madman on your scooter? Answer: You get a stomach ache.

On the walk home from DQ this afternoon Maya raced around on her scooter so much that she had to stop half way and lay down next to tree until I walked Annah the rest of the way home and could return with the car to pick her up. Pretty sad ordeal.

A birthday and a funeral

Wednesday was Great Grandma's funeral/Maya's birthday. Maya was kind enough to play her violin at the service and even though it was a sad occasion we did manage to have cake and a little celebration at the luncheon. Maya admitted that it was kind of like having a big birthday party - granted with a lot of people over the age of 70, but a birthday party nonetheless. I'm sure Grandma would have wanted it that way.

Trip to Wisconsin

Tuesday Maya took off from school, we left Annah and Zaheeda in Saint Paul and headed to Wisconsin for Great Grandma Lucht's funeral on Wednesday. Being that it was in the middle of the week we figured it was too much of an ordeal for Zaheeda to cancel the daycare so she stayed home with The Pudy.

Catching up from last Monday

We've had a busy week so I need to do a little back tracking to get all caught up on the blog...

This is picture was taken right after track practice last Monday. It was rainy and cold and poor little Maya was out there running around in the elements for an hour. By the time she got back to the car she was so cold and wet all she could do is shiver.

Mother's Day bike ride

For Mother's Day today I figured the best gift I could give Zaheeda was some time alone, so I took the girls and we went on a bike ride to Lake Calhoun. It was a great day for a ride - Maya got some exercise, Annah took a nap and Zaheeda got some much needed 'me time.'

Great Grandma Lucht

We're all sad as we mourn the passing of Great Grandma Lucht.

Apple store - iPad

We were at the mall last night and Maya stopped into the Apple store to see the new iPads. We checked it out and www.mayamacstudio.com worked.

First day of track

It was the first day of track practice for Maya and she had to admit she was a little out of shape, her legs got sore.
