Maya versus Jimmy John's

Watching Maya eat a Jimmy John's sub is like watching a snake eat a rat. I swear you see her neck bulge out as she swallows.

Track meet

Maya got 1st place in the 800 meter tonight. Normally she runs the mile but they didn't run that race tonight, so the 800 was the longest race - and Maya, she's all about the distance. :-) Anyway she ran a really strong race, no side-aches this time, and led from the opening gun.

We had storms moving through tonight and the girls took it as an opportunity to run around in the rain.

Shooting hoops

Last night we were at Mac Groveland playing some basketball. Having not played any basketball since the season ended Maya was a little rusty.

Swimming

Ahh summertime and that means swimming. We need to get Maya a new swimming suit though because she got this little bikini thing and it flies off every time she dives.

Bike ride downtown

Went on a bike rise with the girls downtown Saint Paul this afternoon so Maya could get out of the house a little. It was so nice having a day that wasn't rainy and cold that we felt compelled to take advantage of it. Both the girls had fun playing in the water.

Maya's summer plans

Maya's leash has been drastically shortened due to what some (her parents) deem as less than stellar performance in the areas of school, behavior and violin. Instead of a carefree three months of fun and sun this summer Maya has a daily list of tasks she needs to complete before she even begins to think about doing anything else - bedtimes are being enforced, practices are being monitored, t.v. has been curtailed. This is not to say she isn't allowed to do anything fun - after all we believe in rehabilitation not just punishment - it's just that life has become severely restricted.

Also, part of her daily routine is a writing assignment, so she's been writing letters to people. Don't be surprised if you receive a letter from her letting you know what's been going on in her life - which has not been much.

Popcorn Balls

9:30PM Friday night and Maya decided it was a perfect time to make popcorn balls. Long story short - the popcorn never quite made into balls, but she did make a big mess. When does school start again? :-)

Last Day of School

Maya headed out the door to the bus stop amid a torrential downpour for her last day of school this morning. Before leaving Zaheeda said repeatedly, "Maya, your rain jacket is in the closet... Put your rain jacket on." Before heading out the door do you suppose she put on that rain jacket or at least grabbed and umbrella? Answer: No... No she didn't. Zaheeda looks out the window and there is Maya crossing the street, getting drenched to the bone. Zaheeda calls her back into the house, puts the rain jacket on her and sends her out again.... Ahhhh - And now we move onto 6th grade>?>?>?

Valley Fair

Maya's class is going to Valley Fair today. Maya has been bursting at the seams with excitement - Valley Fair, last week of school. It's good to be a kid.

Old Pic Monday ... On Tuesday

Steve Jobs

Today Maya's class has their important people in history projects on display at school. Maya chose Steve Jobs and had to give a report as well as put together a display --- oh that girl does a lot of displays. One of the requirements for the project is that she has to dress up like her subject. Fortunately I found a black kid's mock turtle neck at Walgreens for only $1.49 so she's all set.
