Ramadan

It's now Ramadan and Zaheeda has been going all day without eating thus making her none too pleasant to be around. She seems to have supplanted yelling at her family in place of eating - Oh it's going to be a long lunar month.

District 9

Took Maya to see District 9 this afternoon and it was really good! Two Thumbs Up! It was also Maya's first rated R movie. Its R rating was due to excessive swearing (nothing too far beyond what she hears from me when stuck in traffic) and some excessive man on alien / alien on man violence.




We don't think the movie affected her too adversely though - you know, nothing a therapist can't take care of when she's in her mid twenties.

What's happening in Wisconsin

Yesterday Maya and her Grandparents spent the day canning beets. I think they should consider turning the house into Hawkins' first and only combination bed & breakfast/beet farm! There's real money to be made there... People love beets!

Suspicious Tea

I was at Holy Land, our local halal supermarket this afternoon, and while strolling down the tea isle I notice this: Gunpowder Tea? Since 9/11 there has been a lot of cultural strife between America and the Muslim community, and I have to say I think the local Muslims could go a long way in quelling distrust and building mutual understanding between themselves and the rest of American society if they would refrain from selling gunpowder in the tea isle... I'm just sayin' is all.

Vacation update

So far Maya has been hard at work with her grandparents cleaning up the camper in preparation for their little trip to Lake Michigan. She must be working hard because it doesn't sound like she's found any time to practice violin yet.

and then there was one...

Maya's Grandparents came and took her away for a little vacation this afternoon meaning we are now back down to one daughter. This is the last year we are allowing them to only take one though - starting next year it strictly a take one get the other one free deal.

Haven't been updating the site lately because well... we haven't really been doing anything. Thursday is Maya's last violin lesson for the summer and then I think her grandparents are taking her off our hands for an undermined amount of time. Hopefully later in the month of August we'll be getting a visit from Brown Grandma but that hasn't been completely ironed out yet. Other than that, there is a whole lot of nothing going on.
