We can't figure out what kind of catfish this is and we thought maybe Maya's Grandpa could tell us.

This is a tough one. Blues and channels are hard to tell apart. However,there are two big indicators;channels have 24-30 rays in the anal fin while blues have more (30-36).Also, channels (especially the size shown) will usually have black spots on the skin. The photo didn't show any, but they are small and the glare could have hidden them. Both have a deeply forked tail, but it has been my experience that the channel cat's tail is more pointed than the blue's. Although I couldn't ascertain any small black spots on the previously mentioned specimen, I feel with about a 90% certainty that the fish in question is a channel cat.
